Intensive Short-Term Dynamic Psychotherapy (ISTDP)

Intensive Short-Term Dynamic Psychotherapy (ISTDP) is a form of treatment that facilitates the rapid resolution of a broad spectrum of emotional disorders. It is an evidence-based psychotherapy that is supported by current clinical research studies. ISTDP interventions are specifically designed to resolve anxiety, depression, and somatization , as well as alleviate a variety of self-defeating behaviors, many of which derive from unstable or troubled early life attachments.

For some of us, the feelings just seem to flow, for others, there is constriction-- a clamping down or flattening out of the emotion. If we further dampen our feelings by masking or numbing them, telling ourselves that we can’t tolerate the pain, they can no longer guide us. Though we may have avoided our feelings for years, their energy is still available, ready to heal us whenever we are ready to work with our pain.

By denying or avoiding grief or other feelings, we are at risk for developing anxiety, depression or psychosomatic illness. I will work with you to defeat self-sabotaging behavior, embrace your feelings, and move past your avoidance so that you can experience vitality and joy in your life.

I have experience working with clients struggling with depression, anxiety, alcohol and drug use and abuse, sexuality issues, identity issues, grief and loss, relationship issues, and issues with family. I have also had experience working with clients who are struggling with cultural conflicts with their partners (ethnic, religious or other differences) or those who have internal conflicts between values of their family of origin and personal beliefs and values.
